While the Barracuda was more of a direct competitor to the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro, the Dodge Challenger had higher aspirations, leaning more into taking market share from the Mercury Cougar and Pontiac Firebird. Additionally, the Challenger SE competed toe-to-toe with the Cougar XR-7, with the Challenger R/T SE variant a luxury-performance model without equal in the market. Interestingly, the brand-new Dodge pony car outsold the more established Plymouth.
This Hemi Orange 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T is one of 287 U.S.-spec cars to come from the factory with the King Kong of engines, the 426 Hemi.
