1970 Dodge Challenger R/T Ready for Your Bid at Barrett-Jackson

One of the finest examples of a pony car is this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T hardtop replete with Hemi power, High Impact color, and style in spades. It will cross the block at the Barrett-Jackson 2026 Palm Beach Auction, April 16-18, 2026.

Though the Challenger appears to be an exact twin to the Plymouth Barracuda, there are several distinctions that make the Challenger the more deluxe of the two despite the shared platform: a two-inch longer wheelbase (110 inches), quad headlamps, and a character line that gave it more visual appeal. While the Barracuda was more of a direct competitor to the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro, the Dodge Challenger had higher aspirations, leaning more into taking market share from the Mercury Cougar and Pontiac Firebird. Additionally, the Challenger SE competed toe-to-toe with the Cougar XR-7, with the Challenger R/T SE variant a luxury-performance model without equal in the market. Interestingly, the brand-new Dodge pony car outsold the more established Plymouth.

This Hemi Orange 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T is one of 287 U.S.-spec cars to come from the factory with the King Kong of engines, the 426 Hemi. In addition to the numbers-matching 426, this Challenger features the “A34” Super Track Pak (Hurst Pistol Grip four-speed, 4.10 gears with Sure-Grip, Dana axle, dual-breaker distributor, 26-inch radiator, power disc brakes, and more). Other options include a black vinyl roof, “V21” Hood Performance Tape Treatment, “J45” Hood Hold-Down Pins, longitudinal protective moldings, “W21” Rallye wheels, and more. While this list is enough to create among the most desirable Hemi Challengers out there, this specific Hemi R/T is more esteemed due to its Roger Gibson restoration using over $50,000 in NOS parts. That effort garnered Gold and Best of Show at the 2004 Mopar Nationals.

Any Mopar can look good, but few have gotten the love and attention this Hemi-powered 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T hardtop received. It’s one of a diverse selection of vehicles you can preview before the Barrett-Jackson 2026 Palm Beach Auction that will appeal to first-time and seasoned collectors alike.

Additionally, Barrett-Jackson is inviting consignments for the April 16-18 Palm Beach Auction. Bidder registration is open and offers options that give full access to the action. Advance tickets are on sale now, with special pricing for seniors, military, and first responders. Student tickets are $10 and children 12 years of age and younger automatically receive complimentary admission. Barrett-Jackson VIP Experiences hospitality packages are also available and offer elevated access.
