2026 BYD Shark 6 cab/chassis pricing leaked as Chinese brand readies fleet push

The BYD Shark 6 cab/chassis will cost less than its ute sibling, but it’ll have less standard equipment.

Pricing for the much-anticipated cab/chassis version has appeared on industry price guide Redbook ahead of an official announcement and a launch during the first half of 2026.

Available in a single Dynamic trim, the cab/chassis is priced at $55,900 before on-road costs. That slots it in under the existing Shark 6 Premium, which wears a tub and a price tag of $57,900 before on-roads (and, for a limited time, is being offered for $57,900 drive-away).

To bring the price down, the Shark 6 Dynamic cab/chassis does without a head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, rear privacy glass, and rain-sensing wipers, according to its Redbook listing.

A look at the New Zealand market reveals the same differences in spec between cab/chassis and ute variants, as well as the substitution of a leather-wrapped steering wheel for a leatherette one, and a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system for a 12.6-inch one.

NFC key card entry is also removed, as is power lumbar adjustment for the (still) power-adjustable driver’s seat.

There, the price difference between the ute and cab/chassis is NZ$1000 (A$853).

The Shark 6 Dynamic cab/chassis features the same powertrain as the Shark 6 Premium, with a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 135kW and 260Nm mated with 170kW/310Nm and 150kW/340Nm electric motors.

Total system outputs are 321kW and 650Nm, with fuel consumption of 2.0L/100km when the battery is between 25 and 100 per cent charge.

Braked towing capacity remains at 2500kg, while kerb weight drops from 2710kg to 2600kg.

Per the NZ spec sheet, the DC charge rate drops from 55kW to 40kW, while the Continental tyres of the ute are swapped out for Giti rubber.

While a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-litre PHEV powertrain has been cleared for sale in Australia, boasting a superior 3500kg braked towing capacity, it has only appeared in government approval documents in ute – and not cab/chassis – guise.

A cab/chassis may give BYD greater cut-through with fleet buyers, something it’s specifically targeting in 2026.

”So for us, one of the key markets of opportunity is fleet. It’s pretty simple – 35 per cent of all new vehicle sales, 35 per cent are fleet,” BYD Australia chief operating officer Stephen Collins told Australian media, including CarExpert.

“This is not demos and all that stuff. This is genuine corporate fleets, governance, etc. It’s stable. These customers want fit-for-purpose vehicles, whole-of-cost life ownership is really important to them.

“The strong, established OEMs, around 35 per cent of their volume is this type of business.”

Last year, 86.1 per cent of Shark 6s delivered went to private buyers, making it Australia’s fourth most popular vehicle among this part of the market.

In contrast, just 24.4 per cent of Toyota HiLux sales were to private buyers, along with 20.4 per cent of Ford Ranger sales.

It’s unclear if the launch of a new Dynamic trim level specifically for the Shark 6 cab/chassis presages the introduction of more trim levels for the Shark 6 ute line.

Despite being offered in a single body style, with a single powertrain and a single trim level, the Shark 6 got off to a roaring start in Australia last year.

It was Australia’s 18th best-selling vehicle in 2025, notching 18,073 units and outselling every other ute apart from the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux, Isuzu D-Max and Mitsubishi Triton.
