Toyota has confirmed the name of its new supercar and revealed it for the first time without camouflage in a new teaser video.
The 2026 Toyota GR GT can be seen undisguised in this 30-second Japanese TV commercial released late last week, ahead of its full reveal online at 11:00am Tokyo time this Friday (December 5) and its public premiere at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon (January 9-11).
While the video has been darkened to hide the finer details (we’ve lightened the accompanying screenshot you see here), the GR GT’s extra-long bonnet, broad rear haunches and front/rear lighting signatures resembling those on the 2026-spec GR010 Le Mans hypercar racer can clearly be seen.

Although the Toyota GR GT will be a spiritual successor – of sorts – to the limited-edition Lexus LFA hypercar, the Nürburgring Edition of which appears in the teaser video alongside it, it will in fact be the first Gazoo Racing (GR)-branded supercar from Toyota.
Speculation has surrounded the name and powertrain of the new range-topping super coupe since the GR GT3 race car concept was revealed at the Tokyo Auto Salon four years ago.
A road-going version had long been expected, and earlier this year Toyota confirmed it would be sold under the GR banner, kyboshing theories it would be a Lexus model.

The ‘Toyota GR GT’ name has been trademarked in several countries including Australia, and has also been seen on billboards at Toyota’s Fuji Speedway in Japan, while Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda said on the Toyota Times podcast that he had named the vehicle personally.
Toyota recently also confirmed it was developing a new V8 engine, which is also expected to be employed but its luxury sister brand.
Now, the Japanese giant’s latest teaser confirms the new supercar will indeed be called the Toyota GR GT, and it’s backed by a soundtrack that’s appears to confirm it will be powered by a V8, following the unmistakable sounds the LFA’s V10 and the inline-six of the classic (1967-1970) 2000GT, which also makes a cameo in the video.

While only the street-legal GR GT appears in the video, it’s also expected to form the basis of a GT3-spec endurance racer, and the same V8 could power a Lexus sister model.
Potentially previewed by the Lexus Sport Concept unveiled during Monterey Car Week in California in August, the latter could be called the LFR and would be a belated replacement for the LFA produced between 2010 and 2012.
When it was revealed, there were suggestions the Lexus Sport Concept could preview either the LFR or a successor to the Lexus LC coupe and convertible.
A Lexus prototype suspected to be the 2026 LFR was also spied lapping the famous Nürburgring circuit in Germany and the Spa-Francorchamps track in Belgium last year.

No details of Toyota’s new eight-cylinder powertrain have yet been revealed, but it’s widely understood to be a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8, almost certainly matched to an automatic transmission as standard (so no manual).
Toyota has long promised a hybrid version of every model it sells, excluding high-performance GR vehicles, and the GR GT’s V8 is expected to be assisted by an electric motor/s in a hybrid system that could deliver a total power output of more than 660kW.
At this stage it remains unclear how much the GR GT will cost, but it will certainly be position at the top of the Toyota passenger car range – above the A90 Supra coupe ($105,295 before on-road costs) but below the $700,000 asking price for the discontinued LFA.
