2027 BMW 7 Series facelift to be even more in your grille

The BMW 7 Series facelift looks set for its debut in the not-too-distant future with the automaker teasing the car’s revised lighting signature, and leaked images appearing online.

Last week BMW posted an image on Instagram showing the graphics of the facelift’s daytime running lights, and illuminated double-kidney grille.

This week CarSpyShots.net posted two undisguised photos of the facelifted 7 Series on its Facebook page. These were seemingly sneakily taken a preview event, and show a fairly significant revision to the sedan’s front end.

Those hoping for a conservative makeover of the 7 Series will be disappointed, with the Bavarian automaker doubling down on the big sedan’s eye-catching appearance. BMW has previously stated the bold look is necessary for the Chinese market, where more expressive designs help to convey status and wealth.

The facelift continues with a split headlight treatment, although this time the main headlight unit has been slimmed down and is now hidden in a blacked out vertical section that also houses the side air intakes.

Again, the double kidney grille is available with an illuminated frame. The shape of the grille itself has become a little squarer and taller than before, while the rest of the front bumper has blockier surfacing.

Also new is the bonnet, which has gained an extra pair of creases stretching up from the inner edge of the driving lights. The central ridge is more sharply defined and looks as though it will carry on to the grille on all trim levels.

Sadly no undisguised pictures of the side and rear have emerged yet, but based on the heavily disguised prototype spied back in July 2024, we don’t expect any sheetmetal changes along the flanks.

There could be revisions for the boot, possibly with tail-lights that tie the 7 Series more closely to the just unveiled i3 sedan.

BMW has yet to reveal any details about the car’s interior or drivetrain. We expect the updated 7 Series to come with the company’s latest infotainment system, as well as trim and design tweaks for the cabin.

There will likely be some minor updates to its petrol, plug-in hybrid and diesel powertrains. If there are any major drivetrain revisions, they will probably be applied to the electric i7 range.

The Bavarian brand has yet to publicly announce a date for the facelift’s unveiling, only saying it is “coming soon”.
