2026 Toyota HiLux teased, reveal date set

The new Toyota HiLux will be revealed on November 11, 2025.

Toyota Motor Thailand announced the reveal date in a teaser video, showing off more of the new – or, more accurately, heavily updated – ute range. The HiLux, like many other utes sold in Australia, is produced in Thailand.

The teaser video shows off more aggressive new upswept headlights with thin LED daytime running lights, as well as vertically oriented tail-lights with thin, C-shaped LED elements.

We’ve already seen quite a bit of the new HiLux, thanks to a cavalcade of leaked images and spy shots.

Besides the overhauled front- and rear-end styling, the HiLux is set to get a new dashboard with what appears to be an available 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.

Previous spy photos have shown the doors and roof panels will be carried over from the now decade-old current-generation model, which makes sense as the new-generation ute is set to be based on a carryover ladder-frame platform.

That’s in contrast with the Tacoma, Toyota’s Ford Ranger rival in markets like the US, which moved to the TNGA-F platform shared with the likes of the Toyota LandCruiser Prado and 300 Series with its latest generation, a move that also saw its American cousin gain hybrid power for the first time.

The new HiLux is expected to continue with a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, which is currently offered either with or without a 48V mild-hybrid system.

Outputs currently top out at 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque with or without the V-Active mild-hybrid system, and 165kW/550Nm for the flagship GR Sport.

Whether the diesel engines will be upgraded to meet Euro 6 emissions regulations – and therefore potentially require AdBlue – is not yet clear.

It’s also unclear at this stage what will become of the turbo-diesel 2.4-litre and naturally aspirated petrol 2.7-litre four-cylinder engines offered in more affordable variants of the outgoing HiLux. These didn’t appear in recently published Australian Government certification documents.

A leaked slide from a presentation to Malaysian media at the Tokyo motor show, published on social media, appears to show the new HiLux will also be offered with electric power.

This electric ute – of which a shadowy image was included on the slide – will be launched in Malaysia within the next 12 months, though it’s unclear whether it’ll be offered in markets like Australia.

Toyota has previously brought a prototype version of the electric HiLux Revo concept, based on the outgoing generation, to Australia. The company subsequently confirmed it would supply mining giant BHP with electric HiLuxes, starting from November 2024.

While the HiLux continues to dominate 4×2 ute sales in Australia, the Ranger’s advantage in 4×4 sales allowed it to push past the Toyota for the first time in 2023.

That saw the Ranger become Australia’s best-selling new vehicle, a title it held onto in 2024 and which it may keep in 2025.

The HiLux doesn’t currently offer anything to match the turbo-diesel V6 or plug-in hybrid four-cylinder petrol powertrains offered in the Ranger.
