Leapmotor A10: New budget Chinese EV to take on BYD Atto 2

Chinese auto brand Leapmotor has previewed its smallest SUV yet, ahead of its reveal later this week.

The Leapmotor A10 will be officially unveiled at the Guangzhou motor show on November 21, 2025.

For now, the company has released just a pair of images – one of an A10 in Seaweed Green, the other in Acorn Brown.

Leapmotor Australia thus far hasn’t confirmed whether the A10 will come here.

It’s distinctively a Leapmotor, which is to say it’s not particularly distinctive.

The headlights aren’t as slim as those on the larger B10 (due in Australia this year) and C10 (already on sale), and are instead reminiscent of older Leapmotor products.

The body is rounded but has a fairly upright roofline, giving it a silhouette reminiscent of the Smart #1 and the BYD Atto 2 – the latter of which is shaping up to be its most direct rival.

Leapmotor hasn’t released any A10 specifications yet, but it’ll be smaller than the B10 which is slightly longer and wider than a BYD Atto 3. It measures 4515mm long and 1885mm wide on a 2735mm wheelbase.

The A10, therefore, may be closer to the Atto 2 in size. The small BYD SUV, which is arriving in Australian showrooms in December, measures 4310mm long, 1830mm wide and rides a 2620mm wheelbase.

The A10 is set to offer LiDAR, at least in China, as the little roof pod atop the windscreen confirms.

It’s unclear whether the A10 will follow the larger B10 and C10 in offering both electric (EV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrains.

The B10 offers a choice of 52.2kWh and 67.1kWh lithium iron phosphate batteries in EV guise, with a 160kW/240Nm rear-mounted electric motor. The EREV version has yet to be detailed.

Leapmotor is filling out its global lineup, with the B10 and C10 to be joined by the B05 hatchback revealed at the Munich motor show in September. It’s due for release in Australia during the second half of 2026.

The company offers four different ‘families’ of vehicles: A-series, referring to city cars and SUVs like the A10; as well as small B-series, mid-size C-series, and large D-series vehicles.

It’s already fleshed out its B- and C-series lines and is now focusing on expanding its A- and D-series lines, which will also see it introduce a new flagship large SUV called the D19.

Leapmotor has gotten off to a sluggish start in Australia.

After launching late last year and delivering 64 vehicles in December, it delivered a further 516 to the end of October this year. Geely, which launched here early this year with the rival EX5, has lapped it with 3358 examples delivered this year of that model alone.

The B10 could help the brand cut through in our market, as it was announced with an Atto 3-beating base price of $38,990 drive-away – briefly making it Australia’s cheapest electric SUV.

Should the A10 come here, it would likely need to carry a price close to or better than the BYD Atto 2, which was recently confirmed to start from $31,990 before on-roads.
