Kia Vision Meta Turismo celebrates the brand’s 80th birthday

As part of the company’s 80th anniversary celebrations Kia unveiled the Vision Meta Turismo, which may preview an electric replacement-of-sorts for the Stinger.

The swoopy concept is the latest take on the brand’s Opposites United design book, and mixes a futuristic body with a lounge-inspired interior that’s said to pay homage to the speed and elegance of long distance touring in the 1960s, hopefully without the baked in smell of cigarette smoke.

There’s also whitewall tyres, but the tyre profile is lower than anyone in the 1960s would’ve thought as possible.

Thanks to the windscreen that stretches beyond where the B-pillar should be, and other glass pieces scattered throughout the roof, the interior is bathed in light.

The driver sits in a yellow fabric mesh seat, and almost all of the car’s information is display on a head up display that takes up the entire lower section of the windscreen.

Depending on which of the car’s three modes (Speedster, Gamer or Dreamer) is chosen, the display tries to gamify the driving experience by setting goals, awarding points and giving a global rank.

A pair of smart glasses takes the experience a step further by stripping away the interior and making it seem like the driver is floating above the road.

There are no details about the Meta Turismo’s drivetrain at moment with Kia simply saying it will reveal full information “in the near future”.

Given the lack of exhaust tips on the car, not to mention the exceptionally short nose, it’s probably safe to assume the Meta Turismo is an EV.

The Vision Meta Turismo was unveiled at event for Kia’s 80th celebrations, although Kyungsung Precision Industry was founded May 1944. The company was renamed Kia in 1952 when bicycle production began. It branched out into motorcycles in 1957, trucks in 1962 and, finally, cars in 1974.

It’s unclear if there’s any production intent behind the Vision Meta Turismo. Earlier reports indicated Kia was working on an electric successor to the Stinger, although later rumours suggested this program was scrapped.
