2026 Skoda Kodiaq mild-hybrid locked in as fleet-spec large SUV

Skoda Australia has announced preliminary details for its incoming Kodiaq mHEV, confirming that it’ll replace a petrol-only variant as the large SUV’s new range-opening model grade.

Arriving in early 2026 alongside the Octavia mHEV, the new Kodiaq mHEV Select will replace the existing base-spec all-wheel drive Kodiaq 140TSI Select. It will be available as a front-wheel drive, five-seat variant as standard, with the option of seven seats.

The mHEV will join Skoda Australia’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), the Kodiaq PHEV Select, at the bottom of the Czech auto brand’s large SUV range, though pricing has yet to be confirmed. Skoda’s sportier Kodiaq Sportline and flagship Kodiaq RS will remain unchanged as petrol-only variants.

“Skoda will start 2026 with the broadest and newest range of Kodiaq large SUV models, with something for everyone across the lineup,” said Skoda Australia brand product manager Aline Carrullo.

“The Kodiaq mHEV Select is for customers focused on value, a smooth drive, high equipment and great efficiency, while the PHEV Select takes the technology level a step further. The fact both Selects can be optioned with a luxurious Signature package makes this an ideal package.”

Distinguishing the mHEV Select from the outgoing 140TSI Select is a new style of 19-inch alloy wheels, while the existing leather upholstery has been replaced with cloth trim.

The Signature Package, meanwhile, is available in both five- and seven-seat configurations. It adds a ‘Suite leather interior’ in black or cognac, intelligent park assist, a surround-view camera, power-adjustable front seats with position memory and massage, a hands-free tailgate, and a premium Canton sound system.

This is in addition to features including powered driver’s seat adjustment, a power tailgate, heated front seats, a 10.0-inch digital instrument display, 13.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Kodiaq mHEV Select is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system, producing peak outputs of 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque. This replaces the 2.0-litre turbo-four of the outgoing Select, which offered 140kW and 320Nm.

Fuel economy is claimed to have been improved, with the mHEV said to be capable of achieving 6.0L/100km on the combined cycle. This is down from 9.2L/100km with the petrol-only 140TSI Select.

Pricing will be announced closer to the model’s launch, though pricing for the PHEV Select makes predictions difficult. For context, the 140TSI Select typically costs $56,990 drive-away.

The PHEV Select has been locked in at $63,490 before on-roads, so it’s possible the mHEV Select – given it’s intended to be a fleet-spec model grade – could be priced lower than the variant it’s replacing at around $55,000 plus ORCs.
