Pick of the Day: 1959 Chevrolet C60 Dually

There’s a certain romantic quality to seeing an old, derelict truck out in a field or as a massive decoration in front of a winery, but old metal workhorses also look great when they’re shiny and roadworthy. Just take a look at our Pick of the Day. You can find this Cummins-powered 1959 Chevrolet C60 dually restomod listed on ClassicCars.com by a dealer in Concord, North Carolina.

Another name for this truck is Viking. Why? Because in 1958, Chevrolet renamed its light-, medium-, and heavy-duty truck lines Apache, Viking, and Spartan, respectively. If this Viking was anything like its namesake or so many vintage Chevy trucks out there, it probably lived a tough life full of battles (even if they were with heavy loads and not bloodthirsty hordes of warriors), extreme conditions, and scars.

If it did, you can’t tell now because it received a frame-off restoration approximately 2,500 miles ago. It now wears fresh beige and white paint – a handsome, low-key combo that makes the roof-mounted air horns and stack-style exhaust pipe behind the cab that much more noticeable. This truck may be nice and shiny now, but it’s still ready to work with its black flatbed and dual rear 22.5-inch wheels.

Speaking of work, you diesel fans out there may recognize what’s under the hood. Yep, that’s a Cummins 5.9-liter turbodiesel I6, which sends its grunt through an Allison four-speed automatic and a Dana 80 rear end.

The cabin looks just as fresh as the body. According to the dealer, “Climb in, and you’ll be surrounded by an interior that will likely defy your expectations. This driving environment is downright impressive, with a bench seat that shows only the slightest of wear and a freshly painted dash that’s color-matched to the outside and offers an array of clear, easily readable aftermarket gauges inside the distinctive, diamond-shaped instrument cluster.” Power steering and disc brakes make work easier and recreational drives more care-free.

This 1959 Chevrolet C60 dually is a piece of American truck history, but it’s not a stationary relic – it runs, drives, and if you want it to, gets things done. You can decide exactly what to do with it for $51,995.
