2027 Chevrolet Silverado: New-generation pickup debuting this year, packing new V8

The all-new 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is set to be unveiled later this year, kicking off a new generation of the US pickup.

Within the company’s latest financial report, as reported by website GM Authority, General Motors executives confirmed the Silverado and its GMC Sierra twin will be officially revealed this year.

While the big ute remains under wraps, much is already known about the new model.

In December 2025, the US Patent and Trademark Office published sketches of the Silverado, revealing the vehicle’s look. GM’s designers have arguably been conservative with the next-generation pickup, continuing with its squared-off silhouette and flat-faced front-end.

Earlier spy shots from North American publications show the interior to be a big change from the current Silverado, taking inspiration from the latest batch of Cadillacs, with a wide display stretching across the dashboard.

The upcoming sixth-generation version of GM’s small-block V8 is expected to feature in the new Silverado – offering improvements in performance and economy – and will be offered alongside a 2.7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel six-cylinder engine.

According to GM Authority, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain is also being developed; GM confirmed in 2024 it was working on PHEVs for the US market for a 2027 launch, though it still hasn’t confirmed which models will offer these powertrains.

Exact dates for the reveal of the all-new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 have yet to be announced, but it’s likely to be at least late 2027 or 2028 before remanufactured right-hand-drive vehicles begin rolling off the production line at Walkinshaw’s new factory in Dandenong South in Melbourne’s south-east.
