BYD has confirmed it will be launching up to eight new models in Australia before the end of 2026.
At a media event, BYD Australia’s chief operating officer, Stephen Collins, said the company has “a number of new models – I think it’s around seven or eight new models – coming this year”.
“We’re not going to go into the detail of any of those today, but I can assure you that over the next six to eight months, we’ll be filling opportunities in the lineup and also providing upgrades to a number of our existing models,” Mr Collins said.
“For us, it’s about filling out the range and offering New Energy Vehicles to every Australian.

“Whether you want a $23,990 Atto 1 to run around Sydney or Melbourne, or whether it’s a Sealion 8, because you’ve got four or five kids, we’ve got all the solutions,” he added.
BYD recently launched the cheapest electric vehicle (EV) in the Australian market, with the Atto 1 priced for less than $24,000 before on-road costs – and undercutting many petrol and hybrid city cars in the process.
February sees the launch of the BYD Sealion 5 – the cheapest plug-in hybrid in Australia – alongside the Sealion 8, offering three rows of seats with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
However, it’s not clear whether the new models coming in 2026 will be exclusively sold under the BYD brand, or if that figure of up to eight vehicles will also include BYD’s premium brand, Denza.
One of the vehicles expected is the Seal 6 sedan and wagon, both of which appeared last month in an Australian Government approval filing.

“For us, building the brand is important, building awareness continues to be important,” Mr Collins told CarExpert.
“We just want to keep improving … so it’s just, continually, every single day, do better,” he said, explaining the business was particularly focused on building its dealership network and improving aftersales.
“We want to stay humble, but we want to be a well-respected brand. And that takes time, it takes effort, but we’re doing it in record time. But we’re not going to take our foot off the gas.”
