Mazda Australia once again has both a mid-size passenger car and an electric vehicle.

After axing the small MX-30 electric SUV in 2023 and the long-running Mazda 6 in 2025, it’s set to launch the Mazda 6e.

Pre-orders have now opened ahead of first customer deliveries in July 2026.

Developed and built by the Changan Mazda joint venture in China, this five-door liftback is slightly larger than the old Mazda 6 sedan.

The base GT undercuts the entry-level Tesla Model 3 Premium RWD by $4910, and is only $800 more expensive than the old turbocharged four-cylinder Mazda 6 GT. Likewise, the flagship Atenza is only a few hundred dollars more than the old G35 Atenza.

The first 300 customers who pre-order a Mazda 6e GT will get a free upgrade to the top-spec Atenza.

The Mazda 6e is the first model from the Japanese brand in Australia to offer a Bluetooth key, and its Mazda 6e app allows for remote adjustment of the climate control, windows and locks, among other functions.
