JLR Australia is recalling over 200 examples of the Jaguar I-Pace as the now-discontinued electric SUV could catch fire, but there’s no permanent fix yet.
“Due to a software issue, the cell modules installed in the high voltage battery may overheat at high charge levels. If this occurs, it could lead to cabin smoke or a vehicle fire,” the company says in its recall notice.
“Note: As an interim solution, software will be installed to keep the battery charge level below 90% until a permanent remedy is developed.
“Cabin smoke or a vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with an authorised JLR dealership to have the new software installed.
“Until the repair is completed, JLR asks consumers to limit the charging capacity to 90 per cent charge and park the vehicle outdoors to maintain a sufficient distance from property and/or other vehicles,” the company says.
