Zeekr’s ridiculously quick people mover is getting even more powerful

450kW is already a crazy amount of power for a people mover – even an electric one – but Chinese premium auto brand Zeekr wants to turn up the heat even more.

CarNewsChina has shared a filing with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for the updated Zeekr 009, which lists a total power output of 680kW.

Expected to be revealed at the Beijing motor show in April, the updated 009 appears to have no design changes.

Instead, Zeekr has made various changes under the skin, with the luxury people mover also reportedly adopting a 900V electrical architecture after moving to an 800V system in China in 2024.

The move should result in faster charging, though details of the battery have yet to be released. The current Australian-market 009 still features a 400V electrical architecture, with a maximum DC fast-charge rate of 205kW.

Using a 116kWh lithium manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, it’s offered with both 250kW/373Nm single-motor front-wheel drive and 450kW/693Nm dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrains.

The Chinese-market 009 is currently available with the choice of 310kW/440Nm single-motor front-wheel drive and 580kW/810Nm dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrains.

The Zeekr brand is owned by Chinese automotive giant Geely, which also owns brands such as Polestar and Lotus, as well as Volvo which sells a version of the 009 called the EM90.

The Chinese premium brand was launched in Australia at the end of 2024 with the X small electric SUV and the 009 people mover, but it wasn’t until the late-2025 introduction of the 7X mid-size electric SUV that the brand really took off here.

In 2025, Zeekr delivered 1206 7Xs, almost double the 665-unit tally of the smaller X despite only being on sale for a handful of months. The 009 was a distant third in the sales race with 123 units, though it handily beat the rival Mercedes-Benz EQV (42 sales).
