No Nissan Navara Nismo just yet, but another Warrior is coming

The new Nissan Navara Warrior is set to arrive in local showrooms before the end of 2026, but there’s no word yet on whether a competitor for the Ford Ranger Raptor is in the works.

Nissan Oceania boss Andrew Humberstone confirmed the hardcore Warrior variant will follow around six to nine months after the launch of the Navara Pro-4X – the highly specified variant on which the Warrior is based – but wouldn’t confirm or deny any plans for a road-focused Navara Nismo.

“I’m not going to say yes or no on anything [regarding a Navara Nismo],” said Mr Humberstone – who is set to be replaced as managing director in the coming weeks.

“We’re doing a lot with Nismo at the moment – looking at a lot of things – but we have our Warrior affiliation, in which we have a great partnership with Bernie [Quinn, CEO of Premcar]. Great guy, great company – doing a lot of work with them.

“We continue with Warrior, for both Navara and, of course, the new Y63 Patrol in the future,” he told CarExpert.

While the latest Navara shares its body, powertrains, and platform with the Mitsubishi Triton, the Nissan version has received a local suspension tune from Premcar – an engineering firm born from the ashes of Ford Performance Vehicles.

Premcar was originally tasked with creating off-road versions of the existing Navara and Patrol for the Australian market – identified by the Warrior badge.

Both off-road ‘halo’ models have proved popular with Australian buyers, and 12 months ago the outgoing Navara Pro-4X Warrior’s modified hardware began being exported to South Africa.

After being previewed in November 2025, the second-generation Navara Warrior is expected to follow largely the same recipe as before, with a wider track, off-road suspension, underbody protection, a new wheel and tyre package, and styling upgrades inside and out.

No changes are expected under the bonnet, with the new-generation Navara 4×4 powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine delivering 150kW of power and 470Nm of torque via a six-speed automatic.

“[The new Navara Warrior] will come after our Pro-4X – we launch with Pro-4X, then we’ll have probably six to nine months before that’s all done,” Mr Humberstone confirmed.

Pricing for the Navara Warrior has yet to be announced, however, with the new Navara Pro-4X priced almost $6000 higher than the previous version, you can expect the new Navara Warrior to be positioned at around $79,000 before on-road costs.
