In an interview before WrestleMania 17, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin to Hall of Fame commentator Jim Ross, “I need to beat you, Rock. I need it more than anything you could ever imagine.” It was a direct challenge to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson ahead of their headlining match, in which only one man would walk away as World Wrestling Federation Champion (Stone Cold ended up being that man). In a similar vein, General Motors has issued a direct challenge to Ford in the heavy-duty truck segment by teasing its new 2027 Duramax diesel V-8.
The challenge comes in the form of a teaser video for GM’s 2027 8.3-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V-8. GM opens with the first shot: “A certain crosstown rival’s HD V-8 diesel engine may be referred to as the ‘Scorpion.’ But nature — or GM, in this case — always engineers a better predator: the Mongoose. Built to dominate, this diesel engine packs power, capability, and confidence.” For those unaware, Scorpion is Ford’s nickname for its 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8.
It has been confirmed that the new Duramax will arrive for both the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD; however, power, torque, payload, and towing figures have yet to be announced. When GM releases those numbers, The ClassicCars.com Journal will be here to tell you!
