2027 Mitsubishi ASX VR-e EV lineup detailed, pricing TBC

The Mitsubishi ASX VR-e has been priced for the New Zealand market, but Australian buyers will need to wait a little longer to find out how much the all-new small electric SUV will cost here.

However, Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has now detailed what the local lineup will look like for the Taiwanese-built compact SUV.

Due on sale here late in 2026, the ASX VR-e – built by Foxtron and based on the Taiwanese company’s Bria – will be offered here in single-motor, rear-wheel drive LS, Aspire and Exceed variants, plus a range-topping dual-motor all-wheel drive GSR.

“The ASX VR-e is part of our commitment to deliver customers a range of powertrains to meet ever-growing mobility requirements across Australia,” said MMAL CEO Shunichi Kihara.

“It is a return to the BEV segment for Mitsubishi Motors, who pioneered with the i-MiEV over 15 years ago, and is thoroughly modern.”

Kihara-san told Australian media in September: “We won’t be the cheapest option in the market.

“We haven’t announced the pricing, but yeah I think the competition is not just simply on the pricing, and therefore we will make this VR-e a competitive product in the segment, not just simply based on the pricing, [but] including many other aspects of automotive business.”

Drivetrains and Efficiency

RWD variants use a single 171kW/350Nm electric motor, giving them a claimed 0-100km/h time of 6.8 seconds.

AWD variants gain a second electric motor which bumps outputs to 342kW and 700Nm and slashes the claimed 0-100km/h time to just 3.9 seconds – enough to make this compact crossover the fastest-accelerating Mitsubishi ever sold in Australia.

While all ASX VR-e variants have selectable eco, comfort and sport drive modes plus light, standard and heavy steering modes, only in the GSR can front/rear power delivery be adjusted from 50/50 to 30/70.

There are five stages of regenerative braking, and a one-pedal drive mode.

All ASX VR-e variants use a 57.7kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that can be charged at up to 6.6kW on AC power and 134kW on DC power. The ASX VR-e supports CCS2 DC charging and features vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing you to power small electrical appliances.

Unusually, MMAL hasn’t published range figures, but its New Zealand counterpart has confirmed WLTP range numbers of between 380km and 403km for RWD variants, and 328km for the AWD range-topper.

Dimensions

The Pininfarina-designed ASX VR-e measures 4315mm long, 1535mm tall and 1885mm wide on a 2800mm wheelbase, making it 5mm longer, 35mm lower and 35mm wider than the Kia EV3 on a 120mm longer wheelbase.

Servicing and Warranty

The Mitsubishi ASX VR-e will be backed by a five-year, 100,000km vehicle warranty, extended to 10 years and 200,000km if you service within the Mitsubishi dealer network.

The battery is covered by a separate eight-year, 160,000km warranty, with Mitsubishi promising at least 70 per cent retention of its useable energy capacity over this period.

Mitsubishi will also offer 10 years of capped-price servicing, though it hasn’t announced pricing. Servicing intervals are 12 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first.

There’s 12 months or roadside assistance, extendable up to a maximum of 10 years if you service within the Mitsubishi network.
