Ford F-150 Lariat Black Edition released – with a catch

Ford Australia has introduced the F-150 Lariat Black Edition to its lineup to help sell remaining 2023 model-year (MY23) examples of the iconic full-size pickup, which has been outsold year-to-date by its Ram 1500, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Toyota Tundra rivals.

Ford has confirmed it is applying the Black Edition treatment to 230 examples of remaining MY23 stock of the F-150 Lariat LWB (long wheelbase) dual-cab, which was replaced in Australian showrooms in early 2026 by the updated MY24 model.

The Blue Oval has confirmed that beyond this, it has 495 examples of the MY23 F-150 currently remaining in dealer stock.

Ford Australia has not announced pricing for the Black Edition, and a spokesperson told CarExpert that interested customers should contact their preferred Ford dealer for details.

For reference, the MY23 Lariat LWB was originally priced at $140,945 before on-road costs. However, Ford has previously offered discounts of $8000 on older stock, equating to $132,945 plus on-roads.

The newer MY24 F-150 Lariat is priced at $143,950 plus ORCs in either SWB (short wheelbase) or LWB body styles, while the Black Edition is offered exclusively as a LWB vehicle.

The Black Edition treatment includes black instead of chromed exterior details, including the grille, bumpers, door handles and mirror caps. It also brings 20-inch gloss-black alloy wheels, unique bonnet decals and a black tailgate decal.

The MY23 Lariat Black Edition LWB comes with the same 298kW/678Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine and 10-speed automatic transmission as the current MY24 version, along with a 4500kg braked towing capacity.

Inside, the Lariat Black Edition retains leather-accented upholstery, 12-way power-adjustable front seats with a driver’s memory function, and heated and ventilated front seats.

It also comes with a 12.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with built-in satellite navigation, a surround-view camera, 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, wireless phone charger and rear centre armrest with cupholders.

Standard driver-assistance technologies include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, lane-centring, evasive steering assist and front parking sensors.

While the broader F-Series was the best-selling new vehicle in the US again in 2025, when more than 800,000 examples were sold, the F-150 has had a disrupted run since being reintroduced in locally converted right-hand drive form by Ford Australia in 2023.

This has included at least a dozen recalls, including seven in 2024 alone, as well as a pause in sales between July and October 2025, leading to an official sales figure of zero in July 2025.

The disruption contributed to the Tundra outselling the F-150 for the first time on a full-year basis in 2025, with 837 deliveries compared with the Ford’s 792.

The updated MY24 F-150, announced in August 2025 ahead of its arrival in Australian showrooms in early 2026, brought price increases of up to $8000.

Despite the price rises, F-150 sales have rebounded in 2026, with Ford’s full-size pickup outselling the Ram 1500, Silverado 1500 and Tundra in March, May, July and August.

However, it finished behind both the Silverado and Ram 1500 in September, and remains behind all three rivals in year-to-date sales.
