AutoHunter Spotlight: 1961 Chevrolet Biscayne Custom Two-Door Sedan

The Chevrolet Biscayne was promoted for its unique ability to offer “big-car comfort at small-car prices.” Because of the model’s no-frills simplicity, it is often used as a blank canvas for custom builds in the hot-rod community – and that’s exactly what happened here. Featured on AutoHunter is a modernized, eye-catching 1961 Chevrolet Biscayne 2-Door Sedan. It is being sold by a dealer in Volo, Illinois, and the auction will end on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 11:45 a.m. (MST).

Positioned as an entry-level Chevy with minimal trim, the Biscayne was a value-oriented offering in the full-sized segment. One of the advertisements for the car said, “New ’61 Chevy Biscayne—the lowest priced full-sized Chevrolet! Whether you believe in budgets or think they’re for the birds, consider this: Biscaynes give you a full measure of Chevy quality, roominess and proven performance, priced right down with other cars that give you a lot less!”

This Biscayne restomod was rotisserie-restored in “Ravishing Red.” Exterior features include quad headlights, a driver-side mirror, and chrome bumpers. Take note of the unique wrap-around rear window design, too. An aggressive, lowered stance was made possible by a four-corner air suspension, and footwork comes from a set of staggered 17/18-inch US Mags chrome wheels wrapped in General G-Max tires.

The cabin has been upgraded with modern equipment, too. Most of the trim elements—carpeting, headliner, visors, door panels, kick panels, and even seat belts—were replaced during restoration. Added niceties include a custom center console, Vintage Air A/C, power steering, and modern gauges.

In one of our stories earlier this year, we discussed why GM “LS” engines have become so popular for restorations and restomods. This Biscayne definitely got the memo, since it is powered by a fuel-injected LS1 5.7-liter V8 mated to a 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission and a nine-inch Ford rear end. Mechanical equipment includes a cold-air intake, an aluminum radiator, and electric fans. Four-wheel disc brakes have been added, along with Wilwood calipers and drilled/slotted rotors. Finally, the driveshaft was rebuilt and the suspension received recent maintenance.

Well-executed restomods are recognized for blending classic style with modern underpinnings. This Biscayne is indeed “ravishing,” and it leads the pack as one of the more eye-catching big-body Chevys in recent memory. The dealer has provided videos showing the exterior, engine bay, an idling demonstration, and function of the electrical accessories. The car will come with maintenance records, manuals, and restoration photos.

The auction for this 1961 Chevrolet Biscayne 2-Door Sedan ends Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 11:45 a.m. (MST).
