I have said it before and I will say it again now: The best of all the 1960s pony cars were the 1967-68 Mercury Cougars. The styling was awesome and had lots of European flair, the cars were luxurious with even a leather interior as an option, and they were also much more rare than any of the others. They represent what I honestly feel is the best job the U.S. ever did at creating a competitor to European GT cars. It should come as no surprise then that my AutoHunter Spotlight pick is this 1968 Mercury Cougar offered by a dealer in Mankato, Minnesota. I have posted the dealer’s video tour and road test of the car below.

According to the seller, this Cougar is powered by an F-code 302ci two-barrel V-8 mated to a three-speed C4 automatic transmission. Finished in blue over a Medium Saddle vinyl interior, this classic is now offered by the selling dealer with spare parts, window seals, tools, shop manual, stock stereo, and clear title.

The exterior of this Cougar looks to have had a decent color change to the current Medium Blue, which really looks great on this car. The overall condition of the body and exterior trim looks good. Yes, there are some flaws, but this is a nice driver-quality Cougar and not a show car.

The interior is also in great condition and looks quite comfortable. The Medium Saddle vinyl upholstery is correct and in excellent shape, as is the dash and woodgrain trim.

Under the hood is a Ford F-code 302ci two-barrel V-8 engine rated at 210 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This is backed by a correct Ford C4 three-speed automatic transmission.

If I were looking for a nice pony car to use from spring to fall, one that would stand out from the Mustangs, Camaros, and ‘Cudas out there, I would look no further than this nice 1968 Mercury Cougar. I would act fast, though, as the auction ends on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. (PDT).
