Re-stocked Honda Civic Type R already sold out despite price hike

Honda Australia has secured additional stock of the ever-popular Civic Type R, but it’s more expensive than ever and not currently available to the public for direct order.

The Japanese brand hasn’t confirmed how many ‘FL5’ Type R examples have been brought Down Under in this latest batch, but CarExpert understands most cars will be delivered to customers who have previously placed an expression of interest (EOI) – as was the case when order books were last open in August 2025.

That means that while the most current information and pricing for the Type R is published on the Honda Australia website, it’s not possible to configure and order a new car – indeed, the website displays a message reading, “Due to overwhelming demand, all current stock has been exhausted.”

Moreover, the Civic Type R is now listed for $85,500 drive-away, $6500 more than it was when last available. It’s also $12,900 more than the current-generation model’s 2023 launch price.

Honda Australia confirmed to CarExpert that part of the price rise is due to the addition of a carbon-fibre rear wing, now fitted to the hot hatch as standard. This was previously a $5300 option.

There have been no other specification changes, which means the Civic Type R continues to use a high-revving, turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 235kW of power and 420Nm of torque.

This is mated to a six-speed manual transmission with automatic rev-matching, with drive sent exclusively to the front wheels.

Other performance goodies include adaptive dampers, Brembo brakes, a limited-slip differential, and its signature three-outlet valved exhaust system, as well as 19-inch black alloy wheels, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, and sports seats finished in red upholstery.

Tech-wise, it’s fitted with a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 10.2-inch cockpit-style digital instrument display.

Its steeper price tag means the Civic Type R is considerably more expensive than a Toyota GR Corolla (from $67,990 before on-road costs) and the Volkswagen Golf R ($71,990 before on-roads).

It’s not clear when more examples of the FL5 Type R will arrive in Australia, nor how many will be available. There hasn’t been any indication of when the current-gen hatch will exit production, though it has been discontinued in Europe and orders for the base model have been suspended in its Japanese home market.
