Volvo Car Australia has issued another recall for its EX30 small electric SUV because its battery may pose a fire risk.

In January, Volvo recalled 2815 examples of the EX30, and warned owners to keep the battery charge level below 70 per cent.

Now, it has issued another nationwide product safety recall – which supersedes the previous recall – for a total of 3344 vehicles.

“Due to a manufacturing issue, the cell modules installed in the high voltage battery may overheat at high charge levels. If this occurs, it could lead to a vehicle fire,” Volvo has again warned.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.

“Until parts become available owners should keep the battery charge level below 70 per cent.”

  • A total of 3344 vehicles are affected, produced between 2023 and 2024
  • The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list is attached here
  • The original recall notice is attached here

There’s still no remedy, so if you own an affected vehicle you’ll need to keep it under 70 per cent of charge.

You can set the the target battery level at 70 per cent by pressing the vehicle symbol in the bottom bar of the touchscreen, then pressing Settings > Charging > Target battery level.
