The Tesla Model Y L is helping fuel the American brand’s surge up the local sales charts.
Tesla deliveries were up 21.3 per cent year over year (YoY) in September 2026, to 5654 units, according to data published and made widely available by the Electric Vehicle Council (EVC), which also reports Polestar sales figures.
While that wasn’t Tesla’s largest YoY increase so far this year, the brand’s deliveries are nevertheless up by 84.1 per cent YTD, to 41,705 units.
In September, Tesla delivered 4476 Model Y SUVs – including 1764 examples of the stretched, three-row Model Y L launched earlier this year – marking a 14.0 per cent YoY increase for Australia’s best-selling electric vehicle (EV). Its YTD sales are up 108.4 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Model 3 was up 60.1 per cent, to 1178 units. It’s sitting at 5775 units YTD, up 6.6 per cent.
Sagging sales of the Model 3 were already turning around before the brand announced this month it was slashing the base price by $9000 with the introduction of a new entry-level RWD variant.
Tesla has now already eclipsed its 2025 sales figures with three months to spare. Last year, the brand delivered 28,856 vehicles, a decline of 24.8 per cent on the previous year. It finished 15th among brands.
Elsewhere in the EVC’s September 2026 report, Polestar deliveries were down 15.3 per cent YoY for the month, to 200 units, with YTD figures sitting at 1681 units – down 10.0 per cent.

Polestar recorded its first four deliveries of the Polestar 5 grand tourer, while the Polestar 2 saw a 130.3 per cent YoY increase to 76 units. However, the brand’s entry-level model was still down 26.9 per cent YTD, at 484 deliveries.
The Polestar 3 large SUV shifted a paltry six units in September and is sitting at 57 YTD, marking drops of 88.5 per cent and 67.1 per cent respectively.
Sales of the Polestar 4 were up 10 per cent in the first nine months of 2025, with 1136 reaching customers. However, it was down 24.5 per cent for the month of September, to 114 units.
Its sales could see a bump with the introduction of a new, more practical wagon-styled body style, due before the end of the year.
