GWM Australia has announced that the boxy new Haval H7 has attracted more pre-launch interest than any new GWM model before, ahead of first customer deliveries within the next two weeks.
The new mid-size SUV, which features a vastly different design and powertrain combos than the preceding H7, is claimed to have received 1500 expressions of interest following its local debut at the Everything Electric exhibition last month.
Further, GWM Australia says the new model has attracted substantially more page views on its website and video views on its YouTube channel than the old model, and generated strong interest at a recent pop-up display at Melbourne’s Chadstone Shopping Centre.
“We have high expectations for the all-new Haval H7, and the level of early interest shown from prospective buyers across Australia demonstrates that GWM looks to have the formula just right with this new model,” said GWM Australia head of marketing and communications Steve Maciver in a statement.

“Continuing to offer Australians exciting new models like the all-new Haval H7, with the right technology at the right price, will enable GWM to move closer to its ambition of becoming a top five brand.
“We’ve come this far through 18 years of listening, learning, innovating and localising, right here in Australia. The all-new Haval H7 is the latest example of that.”
Unlike the existing Haval H6, and the previous-generation H7 that debuted the nameplate locally in 2025, the new SUV will be offered exclusively with GWM’s Hi4 all-wheel drive system.
It’ll also be available with a choice of hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains, both utilising a 110kW turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.

In plugless-hybrid guise, GWM quotes total system outputs of 182kW of power and 670Nm of torque, and a claimed 0-100km/h time of 7.0 seconds. Electric energy comes from a 1.53kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, and fuel consumption is quoted at 7.0L/100km.
The PHEV gains a larger 33.7kWh ternary lithium battery, giving a claimed electric-only driving range of 137km on the WLTC cycle. It has higher combined outputs of 320kW and 670Nm, dropping its claimed 0-100km/h time to 4.9 seconds.
Braked towing capacity is 1500kg across the entire lineup. GWM Australia has confirmed the new SUV will be priced from under $50,000 drive-away, and we’ve previously reported we expect prices to top out at around $54,000 drive-away.
Additionally, the H7 will be available in GWM’s familiar Lux and Vanta trim levels, both with hybrid and PHEV powertrains.
For context, the cheapest Haval H6 Hybrid starts at $40,990 drive-away and the cheapest PHEV version at $44,990 drive-away. All-wheel drive versions start at $47,490 and $50,990 drive-away, respectively.
The outgoing H7 was available in just one Vanta trim with a hybrid powertrain, offering up to 179kW. It’s exclusively available in front-wheel drive and priced at $46,990 drive-away.
GWM Australia says first shipments of the new H7 have begun to arrive in Australian ports ahead of its official launch next month, with full pricing and specifications “to be confirmed shortly”.
GWM has previously confirmed the new Haval H7 will be launched initially in short-wheelbase, five-seat guise, with an extended-length, seven-seat variant due in 2027.
