How loyal are you to a particular manufacturer? Is it enough to buy a branded hat or jacket? How about a vehicle for air and water? Soon, Lexus fanatics outside of Japan will have that option. Imagine loading your family into your Lexus GX 550 (which The ClassicCars.com recently reviewed) to get into your Lexus helicopter so you can land directly onto your Lexus LY680 yacht anchored in an exotic location all while wearing your Lexus regalia! This is the proposition the Japanese luxury automaker envisions for the future.
“The LY680 brings the values Lexus has cultivated to the sea, embodying a new future of mobility that seamlessly connects land, sea, and air,” says Go Hayashi, deputy general manager of the Marine Business Division. “With the vast ocean as its stage, it creates an exceptional private space where family and friends can share precious time together, offering experiences that leave a lasting impression.”
The LY680 is an upgrade of the LY650 that was unveiled for the first time on September 2019 in Boca Raton, Florida. The new yacht is advertised as having a flybridge that is approximately four-and-a-half feet longer and a swimming platform that has been extended by just over two feet. All in all, the latest yacht is about 68 feet long.
So, Lexus has a plethora of luxury automobiles for land (obviously), and now a yacht for sea. What if Lexus makes it a troika to achieve that “360 degrees of mobility?” The answer is a Lexus helicopter, of course! In fact, a concept was announced on July 31 of this year. It will be powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW210A1 turboshaft engines and will include Wi-Fi connectivity, climate control, and an in-flight entertainment system.
