While attending the Audrain Newport Concours d’Elegance this past weekend, I ran into my friend Parker, who was showing his Packard 12 at the event. I was inspired to choose a similar car as my next Pick of the Day. The engines of these cars are smoother than probably any car of the era, and the styling is pre-war American perfection. This 1937 Packard 12 Model 1507-1039 Coupe-Roadster is offered for sale on ClassicCars.com by a dealer located in Rogers, Minnesota.

The seller describes this Packard as one that was created in an era when the American luxury automaker was most prominent in building some of the finest automobiles on U.S. roads. These were at the very least the equal of any car built during the time and better than most regardless of what age they wore. It was the golden era for Packard, and this car is a perfect example of that moment.

This car is finished in the spectacular color of Copper Mist with a Walnut Brown leather interior, both of which look to be in show-ready condition. The chrome and other trim items also look to be in perfect shape, which makes sense as this specific Packard has won the CCCA William F. Crossett Award.

It is powered by its original 473ci V-12 that is mated to a three-speed manual transmission with a floor-mounted shifter. Braking is supplied to all four wheels via vacuum-assisted hydraulic brakes, which makes bringing this 5,000-plus pound Coupe-Roadster to a complete stop much easier.
This well optioned car also features dual side-mounted spare tires with matching side-mount covers, dual side-mount-mounted chrome mirrors, rear-mounted luggage rack, optional bumper guards, golf club access doors, AM Radio, and heater.

Everything about this specific Packard 12 looks to be in concours condition, and I cannot think of an easier way to get into a concours with a full classic American car than this one. The paint color alone will set it apart from the beige and black cars that seem always to inhabit these classes.

The asking price for this stunning 1937 Packard 12 Coupe-Roadster may seem a bit steep to some at $299,995, but if you start to consider the costs involved with restoring one to this level, it really ends up looking like a strong bargain.
So, if you feel the concours events calling to you and you have an affinity to American cars, I would seriously consider this stunning Packard as a possible choice. Like the ads said at the time, “Ask the man who owns one.”
