Brute strength, luxurious amenities, and strong maintenance history — there’s a lot to love about a well-kept, big-body SUV from the early 2000s that still looks fresh even after 25 years. The Pick of the Day is a 2001 GMC Yukon XL 1500 SLE 4×4 listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Ashland, Oregon.
The seller explains: “The condition of this vehicle is exactly what you’d hope to find in a well-cared-for original. The first owner kept it in a heated garage in Vail, using it for occasional ski trips when they flew out from Santa Barbara, so it had less than 18,000 miles on it when I bought it from the original owner 13 years ago. It’s been garaged its entire life, so the paint and trim still shine like new.”

In contrast to many of today’s car-based crossovers, the Yukon came from a time when full-sized sport utility vehicles were truck-based, body-on-frame workhorses. While architecturally similar to the Suburban, the Yukon had a few differentiating features. One magazine advertisement said, “We turned our engineers loose, and gave it a tighter turning radius, a wider stance, five-link coil spring rear suspension, plus four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.”

Exterior features include chrome bumpers, fog lamps, recovery tow hooks, color-matched side mirrors, running boards, body side moldings, power moonroof, roof rack, receiver hitch, and 16-inch wheels wrapped in Vredestein tires.

The cabin offers three rows of seating, complete with comfy captain’s chairs for second-row occupants. Interior features include beige leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, power windows, leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, dual-zone air conditioning, and AM/FM/DVD stereo with nine speakers. The seller notes that the third row had been removed at the time the photographs were taken.

Under the hood is a 5.3-liter Vortec V-8 (285 horsepower/325 lb-ft of torque) mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The seller says the vehicle has had oil changes every 3,000 miles throughout its life, and the odometer shows 95,813 miles.

The listing concludes, “I’ve looked nationwide for this body style Yukon or Suburban with under 100,000 miles in this condition and haven’t been able to find one. This is a rare, comfortable and capable vehicle.”
It looks like it’s ready for another 25 years or more! The asking price is $15,000 or best offer.
