Car Connections: Ram, Honda, and BMW

I have good news for all you first-generation Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro fans: We’re going back to the 1960s for this week’s edition of Car Connections! I picked three US Top 40 singles for the week ending October 15, 1966, and found ways to associate them with vehicles. Those songs are “Last Train to Clarksville” by The Monkees (#4), “You Can’t Hurry Love” by The Supremes (#10), and “Black is Black” by Los Bravos (#13). You’ll see how I connected those songs to Ram, Honda, and BMW, but how would you associate them with cars? Tell us in the Comments section below. (And click here for more Car Games!)

“Last Train to Clarksville”: Clarks, a company that makes boots. Boots. Country music. Back in 2022, Chris Stapleton and Ram collaborated on a 1-of-1 2500 “Traveller” with design elements inspired by Dodge Ram trucks from the ’70s and ’80s. Stapleton is a big fan of the 1979 Ram Palomino, which influenced the Linen Cream, Radar Red, Bison Brown, and Cashmere exterior and its stripe graphics.

But it’s hard to pay attention to those or the retro 18-inch Turbo Fin wheels or the 1980s-style badging because the Ram hood ornament is just so eye-catching and cool.

“You Can’t Hurry Love”: Love, the tennis term for a score of zero. Tennis shoes. Shoes. Piloti, a manufacturer of racing footwear.

The Honda Pilot, which was refreshed for 2026 with a larger grille, new colors, quieter cabin, better steering feel, and more.

“Black is Black”: Have you heard of Vantablack paint? Think of it as the blackest black. The first half of the name is an acronym for Vertically Aligned Nano Tube Array. Each of those carbon tubes is 5,000 times thinner than a human hair, which means about a billion of them can fit into a square centimeter.

BMW applied Surrey NanoSystems’ Vantablack VBx2 variant (typically used in architectural and scientific applications) to an X6 and displayed it at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. According to BMW, “A surface coated in Vantablack loses its defining features to the human eye, with objects appearing two-dimensional. This can be interpreted by the brain as staring into a hole or even a void.” Clearly, BMW saw a void in its lineup, which is why it made the coupe-like SUV in the first place.
