Escalade IQ Ditches CCS, Gets 19.2-kW Charging Standard

General Motors is handing every 2027 EV a Tesla-style charging port, and the flagship electric Cadillac gets a little more than the rest of the lineup.

The 2027 Cadillac Escalade IQ and its stretched Escalade IQL sibling drop the aging CCS1 connector for a native NACS port. The payoff at the plug is simple: no more CCS-to-NACS adapter required at Tesla Superchargers or other charging stalls wired for NACS.

There’s a catch, and it’s the predictable one. Topping up at a legacy CCS station now requires a NACS-to-CCS adapter. The good news is that most non-Tesla public networks already offer both connectors, so road-tripping shouldn’t turn into an adapter scavenger hunt.

The more meaningful change happens in the driveway. For 2027, every Escalade IQ trim comes standard with a 19.2-kW on-board charger that lets owners pull the full 240-volt, 80-amp connection their home panel can supply.

That’s an upgrade for buyers shopping the cheaper trims. On the 2026 model, the 11.5-kW module was fitted to the Luxury and Sport trims, while the 19.2-kW unit was reserved for the Premium Luxury and Premium Sport. Now it’s standard across every trim. The beefier on-board charger leaves the Escalade’s DC fast-charging capability untouched, but it’s a welcome standard feature for anyone who wants to use every amp their house can deliver.

The native NACS port takes a NACS home charger directly, which is more than can be said for Mercedes-Benz’s newest EVs. Owners with an existing J1772 charger will still need an adapter.

The Escalade IQ ships with a Dual Level Charge Cord that plugs into either a 120V or 240V outlet. Just don’t get ambitious with the wall socket. On 120V, the cord delivers a feeble 1.4 kW, which means filling the Escalade’s massive 205-kWh pack from zero takes nearly a week. On a Level 1 connection, charging this thing is measured in days, not hours.

All GM EVs are slated to make the CCS1-to-NACS jump for 2027.
