Two things come to mind when I see the word “survivor” in a listing: The first is the theme song from the sitcom, “Reba,” and the second is usually something to the effect of, “Wow, that thing is in pretty good shape for being that old.” Our Pick of the Day is a “mostly unrestored” 1959 DeSoto Firesweep sedan listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a dealer in Torrance, California.

The 1959 model year brought a lot of new for Chrysler’s DeSoto division. Advertisements from those days tout the manufacturer’s new Sports Swivel Seats, Level-Cruise Ride, push-button drive, and Flair-Stream Styling. Chrysler also changed the look of the front and rear ends of the entire DeSoto model line to ensure a more uniform look across the company’s automotive fleet.

Finished in Caribbean Blue and Pearl White two-tone paint with era-correct white sweep molding, this DeSoto looks to be in fine condition. The rest of the exterior is accentuated with dual chrome rear mirrors, statement-making rear fins, and whitewall tires that surround silver wheel covers.

One of the best parts of this car is the fact that you and five of your closest friends can nestle in the blue vinyl and sculptured nylon bench seats for a cruise around town. You won’t have to worry about a gearshift being in the way either because this DeSoto includes a push-button gear selector that’s mounted on the dash just to the left of the Easy-Grip steering wheel. The driver can also enjoy power steering, factory AM radio, and foam seat cushions.

Pop the hood, and you will notice a well-detailed, two-barrel 361ci V-8 engine rated at 295 horsepower mated to a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Sitting atop the engine is a black air breather with a mint-condition Mopar sticker, contributing to the vehicle’s authenticity. Undercarriage components consist of a single-exit chrome exhaust system and manual brakes.

With classic styling and the heart of a fighter, this 1959 DeSoto Firesweep sedan is a survivor according to the seller. To us, it’s totally fire. Add this rolling time capsule to your collection today for $25,200.
